On Distant Shores
The first sub-level of the keep serves as the living quarters and study area for students of The Gimble Jebediah Windwalker Memorial Academy of the Art and Sciences. The floor contains dormitory accommodations (servants’ quarters) for up to ninety six people (very large rooms by gnomish standards). There is also a large library and study. Two spiral staircases link this floor to the second sub-level below – one leads to the dungeon and vault areas, while the other leads to the laboratory.
The Three corner guard towers also have a sub-level on this floor, consisting of large, empty rooms used for storing bulk goods. The walls are lined with arrow slits facing the moat, allowing archers to fire upon any enemy combatants fortunate enough to fall into the spike pit and survive. Arrow slits also line a long L-shaped hallway connecting the two corner guard towers, overlooking the access ramp.
